May 22 - June 10, 2026. Build an AI-powered STEM project for a real community, then submit a demo video, GitHub repo, short write-up, roster, and track.

Fill out the team form and pay the $5 per-person entry fee.

Build

Use AI plus a real STEM domain. Projects must start on or after May 15.

Email the required links and write-up by June 10 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Subject suggestion: MISHacks Episode 1 Submission. Include every item in the checklist and review the official judging rubric Google Doc before sending your final materials.

Submission Checklist

  • 3-minute max demo video link
  • Public GitHub repository
  • 200-350 word write-up
  • Team roster: names, grade/year, school
  • Selected track

Write-Up

  • Who are you helping?
  • What problem are you solving?
  • How does the AI work?
  • What STEM domain is involved?
  • What are the current limits?

Prompt

Build an AI-powered STEM application that makes a meaningful difference for a community you know.

Strong projects go beyond a basic chatbot wrapper. They show a real user, real STEM thinking, and a responsible AI component.

Tracks

  • Community Impact: local or regional community problems.
  • Education & Access: STEM learning or educational gaps.
  • Health & Environment: public health, biomedical, or environmental work.
  • Wildcard: original AI x STEM ideas.

Rules

  • Open to high school and undergraduate students.
  • Teams may have 1-3 members.
  • AI and a real STEM domain are required.
  • Credit open-source libraries and public APIs.
  • Judges and organizers may not compete.

Prizes

Recognition, mentorship, and visibility.

Top projects may receive an AI internship opportunity or direct referral, mentorship from KR3 and Minorities in STEM leadership, featured spotlights, network introductions, and participant recognition.

Video Tips

  • Start with the problem.
  • Show the product working.
  • Explain the AI clearly.
  • End with impact and next steps.
